This nice little Ghostly Effect doesn't use any graphics at all. The code for each piece looks like this:
<blackface>
<font size=7 transparency=0 effect=relief>G<font size=6 transparency=20 >H<font size=5 transparency=40>O<font size=4 transparency=60 >S<font size=3 transparency=75>T<font size=2 transparency=90 >L<font size=1 transparency=95>Y
</font>
</blackface>

Got a background pattern that's just too bright? You can tone it down and create a coordinated look by using transparent table backgrounds, as we have in this example.
In this example, we've used a table background color to provide an area for easy reading of type while still keeping the page background dominant.
Transparency can be used to soften an image and to make it appear to be part of the background, rather than "pasted" on top. An Example.
You can even get those lovely, layered looks of network television that can't be achieved from a computer browser. Check this example.
What can you do with transparency? If you come up with a cool effect or a new use, send us the address of the page and a description of what you did, and we'll post it so everyone can learn!
