How to Create at Tripod

Part 1: HOW TO GET STARTED

Hi! My name is Brian and Net4TV has given me the opportunity to show you how to get a homepage at Tripod and how to use Tripod's unique features.

First You'll need to know the URL: http://www.tripod.com/planet/membership/signup. This is the starting point for you to get a free website at Tripod. It is the 30-second signup form. It will ask you to give your name, address including the country you live in, e-mail address, birthdate which will be useful to help retrieve your password if you forget it, and it will ask for your member name.

You should put some thought into what your member name will be because it will be included in the URL of your homepage. If you decide that you like "JohnnyNetSurfer" as your member name, the URL of your page would be
http://members.tripod.com/~JohnnyNetSurfer

Remember, Your member name IS case sensitive. That means that you have to enter in the capital letters in where they are needed to get the right address. for example, if you would enter in the URL to your page but use "johnnynetsurfer" it would tell you that Tripod could not find the requested page.

Tripod allows you to have 2 Megs of disk space to create with. If you decide to become a premium member, You can sometimes get up to 10 Megs addtitional space. They have different packages to choose from, you can choose to get additional disk space without advertisements on your page and various other features.

After you complete your sign-up form get a legal pad and a pen because the journey begins here. You'll get a confirmation e-mail with further information on Tripod. It will give you your password. WRITE IT DOWN! As you begin to buid you'll really need the legal pad. I filled up 3 legal pads so far on my site. You'll need it every time you go to edit your new homepage.

Now, you have your account set up, You have your pen and paper in hand. Whats next you ask? Another URL! http://homepager.tripod.com

This is the gateway to the files you have at Tripod. It will give you quick access to the various editors you'll use to create your page. You can click on the "Quickpage Builder" and that nice little pop up window will come up for you to enter in your member name and password. Once you do this, you are ready for the next step- What is my home page about? We'll get to that in the next segment. Also in the Tripodisms section I will give you some very useful information on using the various editors at Tripod without messing up your work

Till next time, Brian
