The WebTV Internet terminal is a simple device similar in some ways to the cable TV boxes that used to (and still does in some areas) accompany the cable TV service. The box plugs into a phone jack, your TV with either an RCA style jack (the round things) or a S-Video cable (a small jack with 5 or 6 pins), and of course the power outlet.
In order to connect the system to your TV, the TV will need to have either and RCA jack or an S-Video input jack. In some cases you may be able to use the RCA jack on a VCR if your TV does not have the proper connection. Most VCR's have the RCA jack adapters and can accommodate the WebTV unit. If your TV or VCR does not have either the RCA or S-Video connections you will need to purchase the RF Adapter option.
The phone connection is easy to hook up to an existing outlet without removing the phone by plugging in the provided splitter to the wall jack. The phone plugs into one side, the WebTV to the other. The WebTV system comes with all the standard stuff you need to get connected - no need to run to Radio Shack and get extra parts to make this thing work.
When you first connect the system will dial an 800 number to find the closest connection provider for you and will then configure the WebTV system to dial that number. Most of the time this is a local call (you can check first by using the Phone Lookup utility). WebTV Networks is also providing a way to connect to any provider you choose using an Open Service Provider option. If the standard WebTV Networks provider in your area is not a local call you will be able to configure the WebTV unit to call a provider of your choice.
The WebTV Networks standard connection fee is $19.95 per month which includes privileged access to a WebTV Networks selected provider and access to the WebTV Networks system (which is required to format the pages properly before sending them to the WebTV Unit).
If you choose the Optional ISP setup the connection fee is $9.95 per month and only includes the access to the WebTV Networks system (required). You will also be billed directly from the Internet Service Provider you have chosen.

The WebTV configurations available at ProActive Electronics are very simple to choose from. Every configuration requires a monthly subscription to WebTV Networks which will be charged to your credit card directly from WebTV Networks. You will be asked to enter the charge information when setting up your new WebTV unit.
